MARVIN WOLFENSON SCHOLARSHIP

The Marvin Wolfenson Family Scholarship, announced in late 2015, adds a new element of tradition to the Mercury Club.  Beginning with the June 2016 awards presentation, each winner will receive a $1000 college scholarship in the memory of Marvin Wolfenson.

Marvin Wolfenson was a 1944 Mercury Club award winner.  He was an outstanding scholar-athlete at North High School.  He played basketball and baseball and was an active member in the Jewish community.  He went on to be a highly successful businessman and one of the original owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves with his long-time business partner Harvey Ratner.

Throughout his successful business life, Wolfenson never forgot the Mercury Club. He was a great supporter of the Club, rarely missing an awards banquet and was always an active participant in the Club’s fundraising. His former son-in-law, Bob Stein and grandson Ben Stein were also Mercury Club Award winners. According to his daughter, Ellyn Wolfenson, Marvin always said the Mercury Club Award was the most meaningful award that he had ever received. The trophy remained on his bedroom shelf until the day he died.

The Mercury Club is grateful for the generosity of the Wolfenson family and their commitment to preserving the tradition and relevance of The Mercury Club Award.

2020 Candidate Selection/Banquet

Hello everyone, We hope you and yours are safe and well. The Mercury Club Selection Committee is in the process of reviewing applications. While our deadline was April 15, please contact Steve Waldman  if you feel there is a candidate we might have missed that we should still consider. Typically our banquet is held in the last weekend of June. Due to the current environment, it is highly unlikely we will be hosting the banquet during this timeframe. We will keep everyone updated with our decision about whether to postpone or cancel this year's banquet. Again, Steve will be your primary point of contact for any questions. As always, thank you for your support of the Mercury Club! We look forward to connecting with you all in person once everything returns to normal. Best regards, The Mercury Club
